How do you transform a Nepali village?
Just add water!
Many communities in Nepal do not have easy access to clean water, villagers often have to walk to local spring sources to collect water every day. It is a long way away from Surrey and it is easy to feel that there is nothing we can do to make a difference but in April 2013 a group of Explorer Scouts from Guildford East District will be travelling to the Mountain State to prove otherwise.
The team of teenagers from Guildford will fly to Kathmandu and then journey by plane and trail to the remote mountain village in the Khumbu region, a poor rural community with next to no infrastructure high in the Himalayan foothills.
They will spend a week at the village installing a clean water supply, a project that will make a huge difference to the everyday lives of the villagers. As well working hard the Explorer Scouts will live in the community and experience the real Nepal, encountering a very different way of life from their own. After completing the water supply project the team will head out of the village on foot and trek up the Khumbu valley to Amadablam Base Camp, supported by Sherpa's and porters.
The Explorer Scouts are already busy working to raise £10,000 to cover the cost of tools and materials for the water project and your help will make an enormous difference to a small community in the heart of the Himalayas.
