We are sad to report the death of Jim McKie who was our District Vice President.
Jim first became involved in Scouting with the St Saviours Scout Group in January 1975. Initially as the Group Treasurer and then also taking on the Role of Group Chairman. He stayed with the Group through 1979, although during this time he had added the position of District Treasurer.
In 1980 he accepted the role of Chairman of the Guildford District, a District large in both members and in area within Surrey. Jim became influential in working to reorganise Scouting in Guildford with the development of two new Districts - Guildford East and Guildford West, the dividing line being the River Wey.
Following the formation of the two new Districts in 1987 he continued as Chairman of Guildford East until February 2000 when he became District Vice President, the role he retained until his passing. He was much respected for the work he put into sorting out problems for Groups and the District with things like leases and with the Council.
